Affiliate Event | Sunshine Shop Presents: Andy Burgess – Sunshine Mile Modern

Andy Burgess insightfully reinterprets the Desert Modern architecture of Tucson’s Sunshine Mile in a series of small watercolor studies specifically created to highlight the midcentury modern aesthetics of this historic retail boulevard. The sublime architectural elements of each building represent the iconic era as Tucson flourished from a small downtown into an urban city. Andy’s abstracted shapes and mnemonic colors subsume the midcentury modern style - evoking a time of prosperity and design. Known for his ephemera-based collages, cityscapes, and large scale, multidimensional paintings of archetypal midcentury modern architecture, Andy is also a photographer. His vast versatility has enabled him to successfully launch Dark Spring Press – publishing a series of limited + special editions of contemporary photographers. The Tucson Museum of Art featured Andy’s large paintings earlier this year in the exhibit Mid-Century Perspectives: Paintings by Andy Burgess and Objects of Modern Design.  In 2018, Nazraeli Press published his monograph Modernist House Paintings.Andy Burgess is represented by Etherton Gallery in Tucson, Arizona.
