Mary and Aldo Bondante House Preservation Project
The Tucson Historic Preservation Foundation is excited to announce its acquisition and initiative to restore the 1956 Mary and Aldo Bondante House, an important example of mid-century modern residential architecture. Designed by prominent Tucson 20th-century artist Charles Clement specifically for his sister-in-law Mary Bondante and her husband Aldo, this unique residence exemplifies Clement’s creative fusion of art and architecture. Built lovingly by the Bondantes themselves, the home reflects mid 20th-century American values of craftsmanship, family, and practical yet innovative modern living.
Over the decades, the Bondante House served as a beloved family home where Mary and Aldo raised their two children, Christine and Peter. To honor this legacy, the Foundation plans to conduct restoration efforts to safeguard and preserve the property’s architectural integrity and historical significance.
In addition to restoring the home, the project will also highlight the broader artistic contributions of Charles Clement by showcasing his varied works, including sculpture, illustration, graphic design, and intellectual property—generously donated to the Foundation by the Bondante family. Once restored, the Bondante House will be made available to the public on a limited basis, serving as an important cultural and educational resource for the Tucson community.
Acquisition of the property was completed in early July, 2025, and the Foundation will implement a sustainable financial model, similar to other THPF-owned historic properties, ensuring its long-term maintenance and preservation but we can’t do it without community support.
Preservation of the Bondante House has been made possible in part by the generosity of Benjamin Supply, and CW Stockwell.
